Doctors’ Orders: What 101 Doctors Do to Stay Healthy

As I grew up in San Jose, California, during the 1960s, the world of health took shape for me on television. I played hooky from school so I could stay home and watch television. Any program (or book) about medical stuff intrigued me, a wannabe writer with a wild imagination.
I watched spellbound as the handsome humanitarian Dr. Kildare, played by Richard Chamberlain, cured patients of all manner of diseases. My middle-class neighborhood was a safe place that led me to think that health and wellness came easily to people in my world. But things changed.
Twenty-five years later, there I was, a health journalist writing in the San Francisco Bay Area, interviewing doctors nationwide about the scourge of disease. What’s more, reality hit because illness, by this time, had touched my family, friends, and a past professor or two. I noticed, however, that some of the diseases might have been prevented by lifestyle changes – which include the healthful Mediterranean diet and exercise but it was too late. . .
These 101 doctors have given me the key to being a healthier and happier person – inside and outside. And I have discovered that we all have the power to take control of our body, mind, and spirit. These are timeless health secrets of doctors willing to open up and tell it like it is. These are real doctors, and their words of wisdom are worth a million doctors’ visits.
